When the Jamaican water deity River Mumma tasks Alicia, a young Black woman mired in a quarter-life crisis, with finding her missing comb, Alicia's mundane life in Toronto takes a fantastical turn. Ignorant of the folklore that her relatives had recounted to her and distanced from her childhood visions, Alicia must now rely on those elusive memories and the help of keen co-worker Heaven and enigmatic Mars to evade malevolent spirits known as duppies. As they undertake a perilous urban odyssey, the deadline looms, and their search for the comb becomes a search for self and connection to ancestry, weaving a narrative rich in diasporic culture and the art of Jamaican storytelling.
